Anchorage’s restaurants are diverse and plentiful. You can find so many great places to eat in the biggest city in Alaska, but here is a list of 5 places we highly recommend trying.
#1 Moose’s Tooth Pub & Pizzeria
~ Pizza ~
Moose’s Tooth is a nationally ranked pizzeria in the United States. In 2015, they ranked #3 on TripAdvisor’s top 10 pizza restaurants (source: CNN). Moose’s Tooth offers over 30 pizza flavors on their menu, including 9 veggie pizzas. They are most well known for their “Amazing Apricot” pizza with main ingredients of chicken, cream cheese, apricot sauce, red peppers, and carrots. I would highly recommend trying this pizza, I get it every time I go! Besides pizza, they also offer salads, soups, sandwiches and of course desserts to round out your meal. For those 21 years and older, they offer house-made brews from their brewery, Broken Tooth. They offer a variety of beer types, and change out their seasonal options.
If you’re interested in trying out some great Alaskan pizza while in Anchorage, I would recommend arriving at Moose’s Tooth with extra time on your hands. Don’t let this deter you from trying out the best local pizza in Anchorage! Just remember to plan ahead and know you may wait for a table; it is definitely worth the extra time.

#2 Snow City Cafe
~ Brunch ~
Whether you’re an early riser who loves to start off their day with a great healthy breakfast or someone who loves to sleep in and have their first meal around brunch time, Snow City Cafe is the perfect place to start off your day. They offer a variety of breakfast and lunch options, though their house-made sticky bun is to die for! You really cannot go wrong with anything on their breakfast or lunch menu. I have personally tried a variety of items on both sides of the menu and really its just up to your personal breakfast or brunch time tastes. They offer unlimited refills on hot, organic brewed drip coffee that you can start pouring as soon as you walk in and are waiting to be seated. Other drinks include juices, teas, milk, soft drinks, and fruit smoothies. In addition, Snow City Cafe has their own personal blend of espresso drinks.
Being such a popular place, you may need to wait a short time for a table. Though while you wait, there is plenty of coffee to sip on and art to look at purchasing. There are floor to ceilings windows along the outside wall, they bring in wonderful light and a great place to people watch. You can also make a reservation online up to several days in advance, or call 907-272-2489 for same day reservations. Online reservations can be made for up to 6 guests, including children & infants. They reserve the right to seat complete parties only.

#3 South Restaurant + Coffeehouse
~ Vegetarian & Gluten Free ~
South Restaurant + Coffeehouse is a beautiful and elegantly decorated sit-down restaurant. This is the perfect place for a date night or a fun Saturday brunch date with your girlfriends. Service is given for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On all their menus they mark vegetarian and gluten free options to make it easier for those with dietary needs to find a dish they love. For lunch or dinner, I recommend trying the “Rice Bowl” marked as vegetarian. You can add chicken, shrimp, or salmon for those who want the added meat. I enjoy this dish with shrimp or salmon, but an egg is also great for extra protein.
Waiting for a table is never too long at South Restaurant, but you can tend to see a full dining room no matter what time you decide to visit. You can make a reservation online up to several days in advance if you want to be sure you are seated quickly. Busier times for South Restaurants would include Fridays lunch & dinner time, Saturdays brunch time, and Sundays lunch time. For groups bigger than 4, call them at 907-770-9200 for a reservation. Check out their calendar for some fun special dinners, classes and events they host in their Back Room! Its a private dining room with a chef’s kitchen that is also great to reserve for a private event.

#5 Bridge Seafood Restaurant
~ Alaskan Seafood ~
Bridge Seafood Restaurant is a unique Alaskan restaurant that makes tasty Alaskan seafood, all Alaskan wild caught and made fresh daily. Because of this, they are only open during Alaskan fishing season, late May through late August. Their location is exclusive, dining in the only restaurant at this spot and with this view. Naming the restaurant was certainly easy because dinner is enjoyed on a bridge overlooking Ship Creek running through downtown Anchorage. This creek has thousands of salmon run up stream to spawn. You can watch on as fishermen work to reel in their catch of the day. They’re open for dinner every evening during the summer season, which can make for extraordinary views with the sun staying up well past bedtime. All their fresh seafood makes for one amazing dinner out. The menu consists of appetizers and main entrees which are served with their signature smoked salmon spread, sour dough rolls and access to their “All You Can Eat Starter Bar.”
With such an amazing location and meal, I would recommend making a reservation. You can do this online through the link or by calling them at 907-644-8300. They offer walk-in dinner seating which is a great option for those visiting town and not sure when they’ll be able to drop in. It is the perfect place to go on a date night out or a place to try some of the best Alaskan seafood while enjoying the view.
